Taxonomy:
Two subspecies of the Eastern Box Turtle are recognized (Iverson et al. 2017).
These include
Terrapene c. carolina (Woodland Box Turtle) and
T. c. triunguis (Three-toed Box
Turtle).
Distribution:
Eastern Box Turtles are found across all of Tennessee
especially in forested regions. Terrapene c. carolina occurs
in
all but the extreme southwestern corner of the state where it is replaced by
T. c. triunguis (Conant and Collins
1998).
