Taxonomy: Crother et al. (2017), following the recommendation of Pryon et al. (2016), listed Storeria dekayi as a monotypic species.
Distribution:
According to Conant and Collins (1998),
S. d. wrightorum (Midland
Brownsnake) occurs across most of Tennessee.
Their distribution map indicates intergradient populations of
S. d. wrightorum and
S. d. dekayi (Northern Brownsnake) in
the southeastern quarter of the state.
Verified records of the species are lacking for several areas
of the state, especially
northeastern Tennessee.
