Taxonomy: Pantherophis
spiloides is one of nine species of North American Ratsnakes listed by
Crother et al. (2012), and the only one that occurs in Tennessee (Burbrink 2001).
No subspecies are recognized (Crother et al. 2012).
Distribution: The Gray Ratsnake has been documented statewide, but
there are still a few widely scattered counties where records are lacking.
