Taxonomy:  Kirtland’s Snake is a monotypic species (Crother et al. 2012). 

Distribution: In Tennessee Kirtland’s Snake is known from only two localities, one each in Henry and Carroll counties..

Questionable and/or Erroneous Records: None. 

Conservation Status: Tennessee populations of Clonophis kirtlandii have been assigned a state ranking of S3 (rare and uncommon in the state, from 21-100 occurrences) by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, Division of Natural Heritage (Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation 2016).
