Taxonomy: Eleven
subspecies of the North American Racer are currently recognized (Crother et al.
2012). Three of these (C. c. constrictor,
Northern Black Racer; C. c. priapus, Southern Black Racer; and C.
c. latrunculus, Black-masked Racer) occur in Tennessee (Conant and Collins
1998, Thomas et al. 2000, Johansen and Ream 2008).
